Cambi Castle

Cambi Castle is a historic fortress located in Kaštel Kambelovac, a town within the administrative area of Kaštela in the Dalmatia region of Croatia. Originally constructed in 1517 by brothers Jerolim and Nikola Cambi, members of an aristocratic family from Split, the structure was later associated with the year 1589 in some records regarding the family's prominence. The castle was initially built on a small islet to serve as a defensive stronghold for the Cambi family and to protect residents of the nearby Lažan and Kruševik settlements from potential threats. Its strategic placement surrounded by seawater provided a natural barrier against invaders, enhancing its security during turbulent historical periods.

Architecturally, Cambi Castle is distinguished by its unique cylindrical shape, making it the only round castle among the various fortifications found throughout the Kaštela region. This specific design was chosen to maximize defensibility, allowing guards to monitor approaching dangers from all angles effectively.
