Cavernago

Cavernago is a municipality situated in the Province of Bergamo within the Lombardy region of Italy. Located approximately 50 kilometers northeast of Milan and 11 kilometers southeast of Bergamo, this small community sits at an elevation of 199 meters. While the town itself is modest in size, it holds significant historical weight due to its association with two distinct fortifications. The area is perhaps best known for housing Malpaga Castle, a renowned Renaissance fortress that once served as the residence of Bartolomeo Colleoni, a famous condottiero and local lord who played a pivotal role in Italian military history during the fifteenth century.

The specific Castle of Cavernago, distinct from the nearby Malpaga structure, underwent a major transformation during the seventeenth century. Originally an older defensive structure, it was remodeled into an elegant residence showcasing Baroque architectural styles.
