Gulustan Castle
Gulustan Castle is an ancient Armenian fortress located in the Goranboy region of Azerbaijan. The fortress is situated at the foothills of Murovdag, bordering Agdere and Goranboy regions, and is encircled by precipice and forest. It is positioned on the coast of Incechay, at a height of 1700 m above sea level, and the way to the fortress is from the south-east.
The fortress was built in the 12th-17th century and is an example of the Architectural school of Arran. The name "Gulustan" is a Persian word, meaning "flower garden". The fortress was the residence of the Armenian noble house of Beglaryan, who ruled the Armenian Principality of Gulustan. The significant historic Treaty of Gulistan was also signed in this fortress.
The castle is currently in a state of preservation, with stone walls that are 0.8-0.9 m wide in the north and west, and 1.5 m wide in the south. The length of the fortress is 200-250 m in the east-west direction and 20-25 m in the north-south direction. The fortress is considered a historic monument and a tourist attraction in Azerbaijan, and its architecture reflects the country's rich cultural heritage.
