Tradate

Tradate is a city and comune situated in the province of Varese within the Lombardy region of northern Italy. Located approximately fifteen kilometers from the provincial capital of Varese, it sits at an elevation of 303 meters and had a population nearing 19,000 as of 2018. The area has been inhabited since Roman times, serving as a passage for the historic Mediolanum-Bilitio road that connected Milan to Lugano. This strategic location ensured continuous settlement through the barbarian migrations following the fall of the Roman Empire. The origin of the city's name remains uncertain, with historians debating whether it derives from the Latin name Theodorus or the Germanic name Teuderad.
