Sydoriv Castle

Sydoriv Castle is a historic ruin located in the village of Sydoriv, situated approximately seven kilometers south of Husiatyn in the Ternopil Oblast of Ukraine. Constructed during the 1640s by Marcin Kalinowski, this formidable stronghold was strategically perched on a hilltop naturally enclosed on three sides by a river, providing significant defensive advantages. At the time of its completion, the massive structure featured seven towers and stretched 178 meters from north to south, representing a prominent example of 17th-century military architecture in the region.

The castle holds considerable historical significance due to its role in regional conflicts and its eventual destruction. In 1672, the fortress suffered heavy damage during an invasion by the Ottoman Empire, marking the beginning of its decline. Following this devastation, the property was ultimately abandoned by its owners sometime during the 18th century. Today, the site exists as a ruin, with remnants such as the watchtower still standing as a testament to its former grandeur. Although no longer inhabited or used for military purposes, the location remains a notable landmark for those interested in the architectural heritage and turbulent history of western Ukraine.
