Lychkivtsi Castle

Lychkivtsi Castle is a historical fortification situated in the village of Lychkivtsi within the Chortkiv Raion of Ternopil Oblast, Ukraine. Originally constructed by the Kalinowski family, the exact year of its completion remains undocumented in available records. The structure played a defensive role during the era of Tartar incursions into Polish lands, enduring repeated attacks throughout its active history. It served as an inhabited residence well into the early 19th century, marking several centuries of continuous use before falling into disrepair.

By the late 19th century, the castle had largely been demolished, with its remaining walls visibly standing adjacent to the local Roman Catholic Church. Historical accounts indicate that materials from the ruined fortress were repurposed to construct the church and the parish priest's rectory, integrating the site's military past into its religious present. Today, only small fragments of the original stone fortifications survive. These remnants have been creatively rebuilt and currently function as an open chapel, preserving a tangible link to the estate's architectural heritage while serving a modern spiritual purpose.

The site stands as a testament to the region's turbulent history and the adaptive reuse of ancient structures. While no grand towers or complete walls remain, the transformation of the castle ruins into a place of worship highlights the enduring significance of the location for the local community.
