Castello dell'Imperatore

The Castello dell'Imperatore is a medieval fortress located in Prato, Tuscany, Italy. Built between 1237 and 1247 by Riccardo da Lentini, the castle was constructed for the Holy Roman Emperor and King of Sicily Frederick II. The structure was built using local stone and features characteristic Swabian castle design elements, including crenellated walls and towers. It was constructed atop an earlier fortification, of which two towers remain visible today.

Construction of the castle was halted following Frederick II's death, and the interior was never completed. Despite suffering damage during the fascist regime, the fortress has undergone ongoing restoration efforts. The castle is now open to the public and managed by the Municipality of Prato. Visitors are able to climb the castle walls and walkways to reach the top, where panoramic views of the surrounding city of Prato can be enjoyed. The site remains an important historical landmark showcasing medieval military architecture in Tuscany.
