Vigolzone is a municipality located in the Province of Piacenza within the Emilia-Romagna region of northern Italy. Situated approximately fifteen kilometers south of the city of Piacenza and one hundred forty kilometers northwest of Bologna, it sits at an elevation of 151 meters. While Vigolzone itself is a commune comprising several smaller districts known as frazioni, it is historically renowned for Grazzano Visconti, a notable village within its borders. This area serves as a significant cultural landmark due to its deep connections to Italian nobility and cinema history.

The architectural centerpiece of the area is the medieval castle in Grazzano Visconti, originally constructed in the late fourteenth century by Gian Galeazzo Visconti for his half-sister, Beatrice Visconti. Built in a traditional medieval style, the structure remained in the Anguissola family for centuries before falling into disrepair. In the early twentieth century, the castle underwent a major restoration led by Giuseppe Visconti, father of the famous filmmaker Luchino Visconti. During this renovation, the village was renamed Grazzano Visconti to honor the family's legacy and their pivotal role in preserving the site.

Today, the castle and the surrounding village stand as a testament to this rich heritage, blending authentic medieval foundations with early twentieth-century romantic restoration. The site has transitioned from a private noble residence to a prominent tourist destination, attracting visitors interested in its unique history involving the powerful Visconti dynasty and its cinematic associations. Although the main commune of Vigolzone functions as a typical residential area with a population of over four thousand, its global recognition stems largely from this preserved historical enclave, which remains in excellent condition and continues to celebrate the legacy of its restorers and original builders.
