Valsinni is a historic village and comune located in the province of Matera within the Basilicata region of southern Italy. Situated at an elevation of 250 meters, the town borders several neighboring municipalities including Colobraro and Nova Siri. The area holds significant archaeological value as it encompasses the ruins of Lagaria, an ancient city. Historically, the settlement was known as Favale San Cataldo until it was officially renamed Valsinni in 1873. The local economy has traditionally relied on agriculture and livestock breeding, maintaining an ancient heritage of milling symbolized by the stone wheels still present at the Palazzo Mauri mill.

The most prominent landmark is the Castle of Valsinni, which dates back to the 11th century. This medieval structure is renowned for its deep connection to the Italian Renaissance, serving as the birthplace, home, and place of death for the tragic poet Isabella Morra, who lived during the early 16th century. In addition to the castle, the town features other architectural sights such as the Palazzo Melidoro and the Mother Church dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, which has medieval origins. The Church of the Annunciation, constructed in the 17th century, further contributes to the town's religious and historical landscape.

Today, Valsinni preserves its cultural legacy through annual events that honor its unique history. The main religious festival takes place in May to celebrate the patron saint, Saint Fabian. Furthermore, the town hosts "Isabella's Summer" every August, a cultural event dedicated to commemorating the life and literary contributions of Isabella Morra. While the population remains small, the village continues to attract visitors interested in its medieval architecture, Renaissance history, and the poignant story of its famous poet. The castle stands as a testament to this rich past, anchoring the identity of the community within the broader context of southern Italian heritage.
