The Tower of Ferreira de Aves is a historic fortification situated in the civil parish of Ferreira de Aves, within the municipality of Sátão in the Viseu district of central Portugal. Constructed in the 8th century, specifically around the year 798 according to local tradition, the structure was allegedly established following the victory of D. Afonso o Casto over Moorish forces at the Battle of Lamas. Built primarily from granite with later additions involving tile, wood, glass, and cement, the tower represents an early medieval military installation that has evolved over centuries. Its architectural presence marks it as a significant landmark in the Dão-Lafões region, reflecting the defensive needs of the era during the Reconquista.

Historically, the site holds deep significance due to its connection with prominent noble families and religious orders. In the 12th century, Queen Teresa issued a charter to the parish, and the lands subsequently came under the control of the Pacheco family, who established a seigneurial dynasty there starting in 1126. By 1156, half of the town belonged to the Knights Templar. The property changed hands dramatically during the Portuguese Interregnum in the late 14th century when the Pacheco family's assets were confiscated for allying with Castilian forces. These lands were eventually donated to Rui Vasques Coutinho and later transferred to Martim Afonso de Melo in the mid-15th century, illustrating the turbulent political landscape of medieval Portugal.

Today, the Tower of Ferreira de Aves remains standing as a testament to these layered historical events, though it is currently classified as private property and is not open to the general public. Owned by the Portuguese Republic, the structure has undergone various modifications over time, incorporating diverse building materials beyond its original granite foundation. While specific details regarding its current physical condition are limited in available records, the tower continues to serve as an important cultural heritage site within the municipality of Sátão, preserving the memory of the region's feudal past and its strategic importance throughout the centuries.
