Stolzembourg Castle stands prominently on a hill in the center of the village of Stolzembourg, located in north-eastern Luxembourg. While the site has been fortified since the 12th century when a watchtower was first constructed to monitor the River Our, the current structure dates back to 1898. This building was erected upon the ruins of previous fortifications and was designed in the distinctive architectural style of a Scottish country house. The site holds significant historical weight, with the first official mention of a fortress occurring in 1315. Over the centuries, the castle endured a turbulent existence; it was demolished by Governor Antoine de Croÿ in 1454 and later rebuilt, only to be destroyed again in 1679 by French troops under the command of King Louis XIV.

Today, the castle serves as a private residence and is not open to the public for tours or visits. Despite its restricted access, it remains a notable landmark within the Ardennes and Eifel regions, representing a unique blend of medieval military history and late 19th-century romantic architecture. The transformation from a strategic defensive stronghold to a stately home reflects the changing needs and aesthetics of the region over nearly nine hundred years. Although the original medieval stones were largely lost to conflict, the 1898 reconstruction preserved the legacy of the site, ensuring that Stolzembourg Castle continues to dominate the local landscape as a symbol of the area's enduring heritage.
