Solec nad Wisłą is a historic town situated in Lipsko County within the Masovian Voivodeship of east-central Poland. Located on the banks of the Vistula River in the historic region of Lesser Poland, the settlement was first mentioned in 1136 and officially granted town rights in 1374. The community retains the traditional character of an ancient European town, featuring a classic market square that serves as its central hub. With a current population of approximately 1,650 residents, it functions as the administrative seat for the surrounding gmina district.

The town's architectural and historical significance is deeply rooted in its medieval origins and subsequent development. Originally a salt trading center known as Solca, it saw major expansion under King Casimir the Great, who constructed a castle and renovated the local parish church in the 14th century. In the early 17th century, Krzysztof Zbaraski rebuilt the fortress in the Renaissance style and established a monastery. However, the town suffered catastrophic destruction during the Swedish invasion of Poland between 1655 and 1660, which reduced the number of standing houses from over two hundred to merely six.

Following this devastation, Solec nad Wisłą experienced a slow recovery throughout the 18th century before passing through various political administrations, including Austrian, Duchy of Warsaw, and Russian rule. Today, while the original medieval and Renaissance castle structures no longer stand in their former glory, the town remains a notable site for its Gothic-Renaissance Church of the Assumption. This enduring landmark reflects the resilience of a community that has survived centuries of conflict and political change to maintain its unique cultural identity along the Vistula.
