Siklós Castle is a historic medieval fortress located in the town of Siklós within Baranya County, southern Hungary, near the city of Pécs. Originally constructed in the 13th century by Baron János György Benyó, the structure is renowned for its distinctive blend of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles. The oldest surviving section resides in the southern part of the residential wing, while the complex also features a chapel built during the 14th and 15th centuries. First documented in a 1294 charter as property of the Soklyosi family, the castle holds significant historical weight due to its involvement in major regional conflicts and royal dramas.

The site has witnessed turbulent events throughout the centuries, including its seizure by King Sigismund in 1387 following a rebellion and the temporary imprisonment of the same king by disgruntled nobles in 1401. After a fierce three-day battle in 1543, the fortress fell to Ottoman forces before eventually passing to the prominent Batthyány family in the 18th century. Local folklore adds to its allure with legends of a giant snake guarding hidden treasures in the basement. Although heavily damaged during World War II, the castle was nationalized in 1948 and underwent extensive archaeological research and restoration starting in 1955.

Following a major renovation project completed in 2009, Siklós Castle reopened to the public in 2011. Today, it serves a dual purpose as a functioning museum and a hotel, allowing visitors to experience its rich heritage firsthand. The successful restoration efforts have preserved its status as one of the most important historic house museums in Hungary, showcasing centuries of architectural evolution and royal history. Its strategic location and well-maintained grounds continue to attract tourists interested in medieval military structures and the cultural history of the Baranya region.
