04 Helmsley Castle - The De Roos family in the 14th and 15th century
From the 14th century, Helmsley Castle became more domestic in terms of purpose and use. This is reflected by the changes made to the South Barbican and the Great Hall, kitchen, buttery and pantry area. The East Tower was also heightened for the visit of King Edward III in 1334. A brewhouse and bakehouse were added in the 15th century.
