# Rønninge Søgård

Rønninge Søgård is a historic two-winged Renaissance manor house situated approximately twelve kilometers northwest of Nyborg on the Danish island of Funen. The estate's architectural origins date back to 1596, when the east wing and a distinctive octagonal tower overlooking Vomme Sø were constructed. A north wing was subsequently added as a half-timbered structure in 1672 and later completed in brick in 1757, creating an almost rectangular complex that retains its classical style. The site holds significant historical depth, with evidence of a medieval defensive hill and moat located nearby, suggesting an earlier fortress existed before the current manor was established.

The property has a rich lineage of ownership, initially belonging to the Danish Crown before being granted to steward Casper Markdanner by King Frederick II in 1577. Markdanner developed the estate into a respectable manor following his marriage in 1592. After passing through several families, including the Urne and Friis clans, it was acquired by Ulrika Cathrine de Mylius in 1823. Her son was ennobled, and the family retained possession until 1906, during which time they constructed an octagonal burial chapel near the lake. Following the Mylius era, the estate changed hands among various prominent farmers.

In the modern era, Rønninge Søgård remains a private residence and agricultural estate. It is currently owned by Chamberlain Count Stig Daniel Bille-Brahe-Selby, who purchased the property for his grandfather, Daniel, a younger son from the nearby Brahesminde County. While the main buildings serve as a private home, the grounds continue to reflect centuries of Danish aristocratic history and agricultural tradition. The site stands as a well-preserved example of Renaissance architecture in the region, maintaining its commanding views over the surrounding waters and woodlands.
