Rayen Castle, also known as Arg-e Rayen, is a historic medieval fortress located in the city of Rayen, approximately 100 kilometers south of Kerman in Iran. Situated at an altitude of 2,200 meters, this impressive structure is constructed entirely from adobe and mudbrick, showcasing architectural elements and design strategies that are hallmarks of traditional Iranian citadels. While the exact founding date remains uncertain, the castle is believed to be at least 1,000 years old, with potential foundations dating back to the pre-Islamic Sasanian era. Over the centuries, it underwent various additions and renovations during the Islamic period, evolving into a formidable complex that served as a protective stronghold for the surrounding mudbrick city.

Historically, Rayen Castle held significant strategic and economic importance as a hub situated on a vital trade route. It functioned as a center for trading valuable goods and high-quality textiles, while also hosting industries dedicated to manufacturing swords, knives, and later, firearms. Legend suggests that during the reign of the last Sasanian king, Yazdegerd III, the city's high walls successfully prevented Arab conquest. The fortress remained inhabited until 1868 and has remarkably survived numerous natural disasters that destroyed similar structures nearby, including the famous Arg-e Bam, which was devastated by an earthquake in 2003.

Today, Rayen Castle stands as a well-preserved monument and a popular tourist destination within Kerman Province.
