Qal'at al-Qatif, also known by several historical names including Hadaret Qatif and Al-Mahfouza, was an ancient fortress situated in the heart of Qatif within the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. The structure's origins date back to the third century when it was originally constructed by the Sassanid Empire. Strategically located on the shores of the Persian Gulf, the castle served as a critical defensive stronghold for centuries. Its architectural evolution continued significantly in 1630, corresponding to the year 1039 in the Islamic calendar, when the Ottoman Empire undertook a major restoration project. During this period, the Ottomans transformed the site into a dedicated military base and a fortified strong point to secure their regional interests against rival powers.

Beyond its primary military function, the fortress played a versatile role in the local economy and society throughout its history. It operated as a secure warehouse for storing goods and merchandise, leveraging its proximity to trade routes, while also containing residential areas for inhabitants.
