Peten Castle, also known as Castle Peten-Van Halen, is situated in Velm within the municipality of Sint-Truiden, Belgium. Although originally constructed as a closed farm during the 19th century, the structure was transformed into a neoclassical castle in the early 20th century. The building features a distinctive L-shaped floor plan and includes a small turret topped by a high hip roof. This significant renovation was commissioned by Clément Peten, a prominent local figure who served as an industrialist, parliamentarian, horse breeder, and the mayor of Velm for over six decades. He undertook the project alongside his wife, Eugénie van Halen, adapting the family's ancestral agricultural holdings into a stately residence following the destruction of their previous stud farm during World War I.

The historical trajectory of the estate reflects broader social changes in the region. After the death of Eugénie in 1952, the Peten family sold the property to the Sisters of Charity, who operated a technical school within the grounds for several decades while preserving the original castle structure. Around 2005, private developers acquired the domain and repurposed it into an extensive care site for senior citizens. In this modern iteration, the historic castle itself was converted into a hotel and brasserie, serving as a cultural and hospitality hub within the larger residential care complex. Despite these functional changes and the addition of new facilities, the core architectural integrity of the 19th-century building remains intact.

Today, the estate is notable not only for its adaptive reuse but also for its preserved natural heritage. The former castle park, now known as Triamant Park, retains its historical landscape character and houses several important trees, including a monumental giant sequoia that stands as a living testament to the site's long history. This blend of historical architecture, serene green spaces, and modern social services ensures that Peten Castle continues to be a significant landmark in the Limburg province, bridging its past as a private residence and school with its current role as a community-focused care and hospitality center.
