Pereta is a historic village located in the Maremma area of Tuscany, central Italy. Administratively, it serves as a frazione within the comune of Magliano in Toscana in the province of Grosseto. Situated approximately 36 kilometers from Grosseto and 9 kilometers from Magliano, the settlement lies along the provincial road connecting Magliano to Scansano at an elevation of 283 meters. While recent census data from 2011 records a population of 157 residents, known as Peretani, the village previously counted 182 inhabitants in 2001. Its strategic position and preserved layout make it a notable point of interest within the southern Tuscan landscape.

The village is defined by its medieval origins and well-preserved architectural heritage, with fortifications dating back to the 13th century that still surround the settlement. The most ancient surviving structure is the 15th-century clock tower, which holds unique historical significance as the only building in Pereta that has never undergone restructuring. Visitors enter the medieval core through the Porta di Ponente, the main western gate. Religious architecture is prominent, featuring the 13th-century parish church of San Giovanni Battista and the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta, which was originally built in the 15th century before being restructured during the 1800s.

Today, Pereta remains a small, quiet community that retains its ancient character through these enduring stone structures. The continuity of its walls and the untouched state of its clock tower offer a rare glimpse into the region's defensive history and architectural evolution over several centuries.
