Okopy Castle, also known as the Holy Trinity Trenches, is a historic bastion fortress situated in the village of Okopy within the Ternopil Oblast of Ukraine. Strategically positioned on the Dniester River at its confluence with the Zbruch River, the site was originally fortified in 1664 by General Marcin Kazimierz Kątski based on designs by French architect Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan. The major fortress structure visible today was founded in 1692 by Great Hetman Stanisław Jan Jabłonowski and built according to plans by the renowned Dutch architect Tylman van Gameren. This military installation was specifically engineered to serve as a blockade against Ottoman forces, cutting off supply lines between the garrison at Kamianets-Podilskyi and Moldavia during a period of intense regional conflict.

The castle holds significant historical importance as a key component of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth's southern defense system. Along with nearby fortifications, it was designed to contain Turkish troops stationed in Khotyn and Kamianets-Podilskyi, earning it the contemporary description of the "Kamieniec blockade on Mount Holy Trinity." Its active military role was relatively short-lived; following the Treaty of Karlowitz in 1699, which returned Kamianets-Podilskyi to Polish control, the fortress lost its primary strategic necessity. Despite this shift, the site remains a recognized architectural monument of national importance in Ukraine, preserving the legacy of late 17th-century military engineering and the geopolitical struggles of the era.

Today, Okopy Castle stands as a protected heritage site, with remnants such as the nineteenth-century Kamianetska Gate serving as tangible links to its past.
