Madh Fort

Madh Fort, historically known as Versova Fort, is a small military structure located on Madh Island in the northern Mumbai Suburban District of Maharashtra, India. Originally an isolated island, the site is now connected to Malad village through twentieth-century land reclamation projects. The fort sits within a peninsular locality surrounded by the Arabian Sea and various creeks, near several long sandy beaches including Marve and Aksa. Administratively, it falls under the Andheri taluka, though a substantial portion of the surrounding area remains under the control of Indian Navy and Indian Air Force facilities.

Constructed during the era of Portuguese colonial rule in India, the fort showcases distinct Portuguese colonial architectural styles. It served as a strategic defensive point until the Maratha Empire captured the stronghold in February 1739 during their successful campaign against Portuguese territories. Following this transition of power, the British later occupied Salsette Island and nearby forts in 1774, further altering the region's geopolitical landscape.
