Kolossi Castle is a historic Crusader stronghold located on the southwestern edge of Kolossi village, approximately 14 kilometers west of Limassol in Cyprus. While the original fortress was likely established around 1210 by Frankish forces under King Hugh I for the Knights Hospitaller, the current structure dates to 1454. This later iteration was commissioned by Louis de Magnac, the Commander of Kolossi, whose coat of arms remains carved into the walls today. Built in the Gothic architectural style, the castle served as a strategic military hub during the Middle Ages and housed extensive facilities for processing sugarcane, which was a primary export for the island at the time.

The site possesses a turbulent history marked by factional rivalry within the Crusader Kingdom of Cyprus. In 1306, the rival Knights Templar seized control of the fortress, only for it to be returned to the Hospitallers in 1313 following the dissolution of the Templar order. Today, the castle consists of a single three-storey square keep standing 21 meters high with dimensions of 17 by 17 meters, accompanied by a rectangular bailey measuring roughly 30 by 40 meters. Although no longer an active military site, the well-preserved ruins stand as a significant testament to the region's medieval heritage and the power of the military orders that once dominated Cyprus.

Beyond its military and industrial past, the estate is famously linked to Commandaria, a sweet dessert wine produced in the region for millennia. Legend holds that King Richard the Lionheart declared it the wine of kings during his wedding banquet in nearby Limassol. The wine derives its name from the Grand Commandery established there by the Knights Templar. Recognized as potentially the oldest continually produced and named wine in the world, Commandaria ensures that Kolossi Castle remains culturally significant long after its defensive role ended, bridging ancient agricultural traditions with medieval history.
