Kesroli hill fort

The Hill Fort of Kesroli is a historic 14th-century fortress situated in the Alwar district of Rajasthan, India. Originally constructed by Yaduvanshi Rajputs, who claimed lineage from Lord Krishna, the structure showcases classic Rajput architectural elements including seven distinctive turrets, sturdy ramparts, and elegant arched verandahs. The fort holds significant historical value due to its complex lineage; after its initial construction, it was occupied by Khanzadas in the mid-14th century following their conversion to Islam. It remained under various rulers through the centuries before being reclaimed by Rajputs in 1775 during the founding of the princely state of Alwar. The site experienced a particular golden era under the leadership of Ranawat Thakur Bhawani Singh between 1882 and 1934.

In modern times, the fort has been transformed into a prestigious heritage hotel managed by the Neemrana Hotels group. Following a meticulous restoration project initiated in 1995 by co-owners Aman Nath and Francis Wacziarg, the property was carefully revived to balance the conservation of its ancient 14th-century masonry with modern hospitality requirements. This extensive renovation, which continued into the early 2000s, preserved the original character of the main halls and passages while adapting the space for contemporary guests. Today, Kesroli is celebrated as one of the finest heritage hotels in India, offering visitors a unique opportunity to reside within a living monument that has witnessed over seven centuries of regional history, royal transitions, and cultural evolution.
