Jdioara is a village within the Criciova commune in Timiș County, western Romania, situated near the Timiș River valley. While the settlement itself is part of a region with roots stretching back to Roman Dacia, Jdioara is historically defined by its medieval fortress. The site was first officially recorded in 1320, though architectural evidence and local hypotheses suggest the structure may have been established much earlier, potentially during the Roman colonization period of the second or third centuries. Some historical theories also attribute its founding to the Hungarian Zydoy family, indicating a complex lineage of ownership and cultural influence in the Banat region.

The fortress once served as a strategic defensive point, likely included within Duke Glad's voivodeship during the tenth and eleventh centuries before evolving into a stone stronghold. Its architecture originally featured robust masonry designed to withstand sieges, reflecting the military necessities of medieval Central Europe. However, over the centuries, the structure suffered significant damage from conflicts and natural decay. Today, the castle exists only as ruins located approximately one kilometer northeast of the modern village, standing on a peak that overlooks the surrounding valley. These remnants include fragments of walls that were archaeologically examined in the late twentieth century, confirming the site's long history of habitation and fortification.

Currently, the Jdioara Fortress is not inhabited or used for active military or residential purposes but stands as an important historical landmark and archaeological site. The ruins attract interest from historians and tourists exploring the medieval heritage of the Banat area. Although the physical structure is incomplete, it remains a testament to the region's turbulent past and its significance as a borderland between various empires. The village of Jdioara continues to exist as a quiet rural community, preserving the memory of the powerful stronghold that once dominated its landscape.
