# Handyside Fort

Handyside Fort is a historical fortress located in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in Pakistan. Built during the British colonial era by the British Indian Army, the fort was named after Eric Charles Handyside, a Frontier Constabulary combatant who was killed fighting rebels in 1926. The fort's construction was completed during the British Raj period, representing the architectural and military traditions of colonial India during that era.

The fort holds significant historical importance as it is believed to have been constructed on the hilltop where Alexander the Great camped with his army before marching north. Today, Handyside Fort remains in active use and serves as the headquarters of the IXth division of the Pakistan Army. The facility is currently under the ownership and operation of the Pakistan Army, with Colonel Adnan serving as commander as of 2014. The fort continues to play an important military role in the region while maintaining its status as a historical landmark from Pakistan's colonial past.
