Christiansborg Palace is a prominent government building and royal residence located on the islet of Slotsholmen in central Copenhagen, Denmark. Owned by the Danish government, the current structure is the third palace to occupy this historic site, with the original fortress dating back to 1167. The existing complex reflects three distinct architectural eras resulting from two devastating fires in 1794 and 1884. The main building, completed in 1928 under architect Thorvald Jørgensen, showcases a grand Neo-baroque style. In contrast, the Palace Chapel was constructed earlier in 1826 featuring Neoclassical design, while the Royal Showgrounds retain their original Baroque style from the mid-18th century.

Historically significant as the only building in the world housing all three branches of a nation's supreme powers, Christiansborg serves as the seat of the Danish Parliament, the Prime Minister's Office, and the Supreme Court. It also functions as a venue for the monarch, containing the Royal Reception Rooms, Chapel, and Stables. Due to this unique concentration of authority, the palace is colloquially known as "Borgen" or "the castle of the realm," often serving as a metonym for the entire Danish political system. The site has been the center of Danish central administration since the early fifteenth century and served as the primary royal residence until 1794.

Today, the palace remains an active hub of governance while also functioning as a major cultural landmark managed by the Palaces and Properties Agency. While it continues to host high-level state functions and parliamentary proceedings, several sections including the ruins of the original Absalon's Castle, the Royal Stables, and the Reception Rooms are open to the public. This blend of ongoing political utility and historical preservation allows visitors to witness centuries of Danish history within a single complex that bridges the gap between medieval fortifications and modern statecraft.
