The Château de Beaumont was a historic fortress located in Beaumont, Belgium, originally constructed around 1070 by Richilde, Countess of Hainaut. Situated on a plateau overlooking the Hantes river valley, the site was initially established to defend the southern borders of the County of Hainaut. While the early structure consisted primarily of a single keep known as the Salamander tower, it was significantly expanded into a robust fortress during the twelfth century under Counts Baldwin IV and Baldwin V. Although the complex suffered damage and burned down around 1340 at the start of the Hundred Years' War, it was promptly restored to continue its strategic military role.

In the fifteenth century, the castle evolved from a military stronghold into the magnificent primary seat of the powerful House of Croÿ, Dukes of Aarschot. The family transformed the medieval fortress into a palatial Renaissance residence renowned for its unparalleled luxury. Its cultural peak occurred under Prince-Duke Charles III de Croÿ, an avid art collector who filled the halls and galleries with an outstanding collection, making the château a center of artistic significance. However, this era of grandeur ended abruptly in 1655 when the French army, led by Viscount Turenne, destroyed the entire complex during military conflicts.

Today, the once-magnificent palace no longer stands, with only the historic Salamander tower surviving as a testament to its past glory. The former castle grounds have been converted into a public park where remnants of the original ramparts can still be seen. The remaining tower has been preserved and opened to visitors, serving as a historical monument that narrates the story of the site's evolution from a defensive keep to a Renaissance masterpiece and its eventual destruction. It remains a key landmark in Beaumont, offering insight into the region's rich architectural and noble heritage.
