Casa Loma

Casa Loma is a prominent Gothic Revival castle-style mansion located in midtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Situated at 1 Austin Terrace on a hill overlooking Lake Ontario, the estate was constructed between 1911 and 1914 as the private residence of financier Sir Henry Pellatt. Designed by renowned architect E.J. Lennox, the massive structure spans seven floors with over 64,000 square feet of interior space, set within grounds covering more than 343,000 square feet. The project was an ambitious undertaking for its time, costing approximately 5.4 million Canadian dollars to complete, and included extensive auxiliary buildings such as stables and a hunting lodge before the main house was finished.

Historically significant as a designated heritage property since 1987, the mansion reflects the grandeur of the early twentieth century despite Pellatt's financial difficulties leading to its eventual transfer to the City of Toronto. Since 1937, it has operated as a historic house museum, preserving the legacy of its original owner and the architectural vision of Lennox. Today, the site is managed by the Liberty Entertainment Group and remains a major landmark and tourist attraction. Its unique castle aesthetic has made it a popular filming location for numerous movies and television productions, adding to its cultural footprint beyond local history.

In its current condition, Casa Loma serves multiple functions while maintaining its status as a preserved monument.
