Seaview Terrace, widely recognized as the Carey Mansion, is a privately owned estate situated at the intersection of Ruggles and Wetmore Avenues in Newport, Rhode Island. Designed by architect Howard Greenley in the Châteauesque style, the structure mimics the grandeur of sixteenth-century French chateaux. Construction on this monumental project began in 1923 and reached completion in 1925. It holds the distinction of being the final great Summer Cottage erected during Newport's Gilded Age and currently ranks as the fifth-largest mansion in the city, trailing only iconic properties such as The Breakers and Ochre Court. The estate was commissioned by Edson Bradley, a wealthy whiskey magnate who sought to create a residence that surpassed his previous domestic endeavors.

The history of the mansion is defined by an extraordinary feat of engineering and relocation. Bradley originally constructed a massive French-Gothic home in Washington, D.C., which he dismantled piece by piece starting in 1923. The materials, including rooms imported intact from France decades earlier, were transported via numerous railroad cars and trucks to the Newport site. There, they were reassembled around an existing 1885 Elizabethan-Revival structure known as Sea View, which was incorporated into the new design and lent its name to the property. This complex reconstruction effort resulted in a unique architectural hybrid that preserved historic elements within a new, cohesive framework.

In terms of cultural significance and current status, the Carey Mansion gained international fame for serving as the exterior filming location for Collinwood Mansion in the classic television series Dark Shadows. For a period, portions of the main house and various outbuildings were leased to Salve Regina University for educational use. Today, the property remains in private ownership. Despite its age and the complexity of its construction history, the mansion stands as a testament to the opulence of the early twentieth century and continues to be a notable landmark within Newport's historic district.
