Cabo de Rama Fort, historically known as Praça do Cabo de Rama, is a medieval hillfort situated in Khola village within the Canacona taluka of Goa, India. Perched dramatically on steep cliffs that drop to the Arabian Sea, the site offers sweeping views of the coastline, including the entire length of Colva Beach. While the location saw control shift between various Hindu and Muslim monarchs in earlier centuries, the current architectural remnants primarily date from the Portuguese era beginning in the 1760s. The Portuguese acquired the territory after the Raja of Soonda surrendered it in exchange for protection against Hyder Ali of Mysore. The existing structures, including massive walls, moats, ramparts, turrets, and military barracks, reflect the defensive engineering style typical of Portuguese colonial fortifications in the region.

The historical significance of the fort extends beyond its military origins. Originally equipped with twenty-one guns and a commander's quarter, its function evolved over time from a strategic defense point into a government prison, a role it served until 1955. This transition occurred after the defeat of Tipu Sultan in 1799, which removed the primary regional rival to Portuguese power. Despite years of neglect, the site retains key features such as artillery remains and the Capela de Santo António. This chapel is a notable surviving element that remains in active use today, serving as a spiritual center amidst the ruins.

Currently, Cabo de Rama stands as a cultural landmark and popular tourist destination, though it has faced challenges regarding maintenance. Recent reports indicate plans to restore the fort following a long period of deterioration. Visitors are drawn not only by the historical architecture but also by the breathtaking natural scenery surrounding the site. The combination of historic ramparts overlooking the ocean creates a unique atmosphere that highlights both the martial past of the Portuguese empire in India and the enduring beauty of the Goan coast.
