# Burg Bideneck

Burg Bideneck, also known by variants such as Biedenegg or Biedeneck, is a historic castle situated in the municipality of Fließ within the Tyrol region of western Austria. Perched approximately 198 meters above sea level, the structure occupies a relatively unprotected position accessible via a moderately rising slope, differing from the highly fortified defensive sites typical of the era. The complex was first documented in 1339, establishing its medieval origins, though its current architectural character is largely defined by significant reconstruction efforts undertaken during the 16th century. A distinctive feature of the keep is its crown of twelve dovetail battlements, each standing 1.5 meters high, which were shaped into their present form during more recent restoration work rather than originating from the medieval period.

The castle possesses a rich history of ownership that reflects its evolution from a military structure to a residential estate. In 1546, Hans Trautson acquired the property, overseeing the major rebuilding phase that preserved its general appearance for centuries. Subsequent ownership passed to the Barons of Pach zu Hansenheim, who notably operated a cafe within the grounds, signaling an early shift toward public hospitality. Since 1994, the Pöll family has held ownership of the site. Today, Burg Bideneck serves primarily as a venue for holiday apartments. Consequently, the interior is not open to general visitors, as the rooms are dedicated to private accommodation rather than museum tours or public exploration. Despite its limited accessibility, the castle remains a recognizable landmark in the Tyrolean landscape, retaining the visual identity established during its Renaissance-era transformation.
