Bright Castle is a ruined tower house situated in the townland of Bright, near Downpatrick in County Down, Northern Ireland. Perched on the edge of a ridge overlooking the surrounding countryside, this stone structure dates back to the late 15th or early 16th century. Originally comprising three storeys, the castle was built with thick stone walls that narrowed on upper floors and featured a barrel-vaulted ground floor. The architectural design included small hourglass-shaped windows for lighting on the lower level, larger windows on the first storey, and a surviving parapet walk at the top. Although it likely once possessed square corner turrets similar to those found at Margaret's Castle in Ardglass, these features have not endured.

The historical significance of the site is linked to Janico Dartas, a soldier from Navarre who arrived in Ireland with King Richard II in 1394. Dartas was granted lands in the area for his military service, and the castle was constructed on what became his estate. Today, Bright Castle is designated as a Scheduled Historic Monument and is under public ownership. While the majority of the structure has disappeared over time, the east wall remains fully intact, measuring approximately 6.4 metres in length. Portions of the north and south walls also survive, extending westward by two to three metres.

Currently, the site is accessible to the public and stands as a testament to the region's medieval defensive architecture. Despite its ruined condition, the remaining masonry offers valuable insights into the construction techniques of the period, including drainage channels exiting at a string course and the specific thickness variations of the walls. Located on Coniamstown Road within the Down District Council area, Bright Castle serves as a tangible reminder of the area's turbulent past and the legacy of foreign soldiers who settled in Ulster during the late Middle Ages.
