# Bourglinster Castle

Bourglinster Castle, also known as Burg Linster, is situated in the village of Bourglinster in central Luxembourg, approximately 17 kilometers east of Luxembourg City. First documented in 1098 as property of St Symeon of Trier, the site originally featured a residential keep, a chapel, and defensive walls. Over the centuries, the structure evolved significantly, with a northern tower added in the 14th century and a lower castle with a moat and twin towers constructed during the 15th century. Although partially destroyed during the wars of the 16th century and again by French forces in the 1680s, the castle was repeatedly repaired and expanded. Notable architectural additions include a Renaissance wing from 1548 and an elegant Baroque façade erected in the early 18th century, reflecting a blend of medieval fortification and later stylistic influences.

Acquired by the Luxembourg State in 1968, the castle underwent comprehensive restoration before reopening to the public in 1982. Today, it serves as a vibrant hub for business and culture, housing three banqueting halls capable of accommodating up to 200 guests for meetings, gala dinners, and receptions. The premises are also home to La Distillerie, a highly acclaimed restaurant regarded as one of the finest in the country. Furthermore, the castle acts as the primary venue for the annual Chamber Music Festival organized by the Friends of Bourglinster Castle, continuing its long legacy as a center for community gathering and artistic expression while preserving its rich historical character.
