Berritzgaard is a prominent estate and manor house located on the island of Lolland in Denmark. Recognized as one of the largest and best-preserved manors in the region, the property holds a national listing as a historic place. While the estate's origins trace back to 1382 under its first owner, Markvard Pøiske, and evolved from a village named Berith, the current structure represents a later era of development. The site is renowned for its architectural integrity, standing as the most unspoiled example of a Danish manor house from its specific historical period.

The present manor house was constructed in the Dutch Renaissance style, a design choice that distinguishes it within Danish architectural history. Building commenced under the ownership of the Huitfeldt family, specifically commissioned by Jacob Huitfeldt and his wife, Lisebeth Friis. The construction was executed by the notable architect Hans van Steenwinckel the Elder and was completed in 1586, although Friis was widowed before the project reached its conclusion. The building underwent significant renovation during the 1890s, ensuring its preservation through the centuries while maintaining its original stylistic characteristics.

Historically, the estate has seen ownership by several influential families beyond its founders. Following the Huitfeldt tenure, the property was sold in 1654 by Joachim Gersdorff to Hans Wilhelm von Harstall, who served as a stable master to Prince Christian. The legacy continued with his son, Christian Ulrich von Harstall, who rose to become the Master of the Royal Stables for King Christian V. Today, Berritzgaard remains a significant cultural landmark, celebrated for its continuous history since the late 14th century and its exceptional state of conservation.
