Asigarh Fort
wikipedia

Asigarh Fort, also known as Hansi Fort, is a historic stronghold situated on the eastern bank of Amti Lake in Hansi city, Haryana, India. Located approximately 135 kilometers from Delhi along National Highway 9, the site spans an area of 30 acres and features walls reaching a height of 52 feet. Constructed in the 11th century by the Tomara dynasty, specifically under the lineage of King Anangpal Tomar and his son Drupad, the fort exemplifies traditional Hindu architecture. It was originally built for Jatwan and served as a strategic military center that once commanded authority over nearly 80 surrounding forts during its prime, earning a reputation as one of the most impregnable structures in ancient India.

The fort derives its name from the Sanskrit words Asi, meaning sword, and garh, meaning fort, reflecting its historical significance as a major center for sword manufacturing. Under the Tomar Rajput rulers, the facility produced high-quality blades that were exported as far as Arab countries. Over the centuries, the site has been known by various names including Asidurga, Asika, and Ansi. Although the original structure suffered demolition in 1857, likely during the Indian Rebellion, it was subsequently restored in 1937 by the Archaeological Survey of India. Today, it stands as a centrally protected monument governed by the same agency, preserving the legacy of early medieval Indian military engineering and craftsmanship for visitors and historians alike.
