Adorno Castle

Adorno Castle, also known as Silvano d'Orba Castle, is a medieval fortress located in Silvano d'Orba in the Piedmont region of Italy. The castle was constructed between 1446 and 1492, following the granting of the fief to the noble Adorno family. An inscription on the building commemorates the completion date of 1492. The castle remained in the possession of the Adorno family for centuries until the death of their last male heir in 1634, when it passed through inheritance to the Botta-Adorno line. In the late 19th century, it was acquired by Enrico Belimbau, a wealthy Genoese banker, and subsequently transferred to the Iannoni family in 1991, who continue to own the castle today.

The castle features distinctive medieval military architecture, constructed from stone with a quadrangular layout reinforced by four corner towers and projecting battlements typical of its era. The structure spans three floors arranged around a central courtyard, which is porticoed on two sides. The main entrance, distinguished by two symmetrical portals, is positioned on the northern façade. The garden-facing side of the castle is particularly notable, featuring two larger towers that overlook a terraced garden below, providing both defensive capabilities and aesthetic appeal to the structure's design.
