Ulvåsa Manor

Ulvåsa Manor, also known as Ulfåsa, is a historic mansion located by Lake Boren just outside the town of Motala in Östergötland, Sweden. While the original medieval estate was situated a few kilometers to the west, the current structure's construction began during the 16th century. The building underwent significant modifications in the early 19th century when a third floor was added, giving the mansion its present architectural appearance. Today, it stands as a listed building and is recognized as one of the terminating vistas in the Swedish landscape, reflecting its importance within the local heritage of Motala Municipality.

The site holds profound historical significance due to its connection with Saint Bridget of Sweden, who lived most of her life at the original medieval Ulvåsa manor. After the death of her husband, that initial residence was abandoned, and a new home was subsequently established at Brittås, located one kilometer south of the current mansion. Although the original medieval buildings are now ruins, their legacy remains a central part of the estate's identity. The transition from the medieval site to the current 16th-century structure marks a key evolution in the property's long history, bridging the gap between religious heritage and aristocratic residence.

Currently, Ulvåsa Manor serves as a private residence and is not open to the public for interior visits. However, the grounds feature an English park that remains accessible to visitors throughout the year. A dedicated walking trail circles the mansion and winds through this scenic parkland, allowing guests to appreciate the exterior architecture and the natural beauty surrounding Lake Boren. This arrangement ensures that while the building itself remains a private home, the historical setting and landscaped gardens continue to be enjoyed by the public, preserving the site's cultural value within the community.
