Tkalec Manor

Tkalec Manor is a historic Baroque building located next to the village of Štrigova in Međimurje County, northern Croatia. Constructed in the mid-18th century, the structure originally served as the residence for members of the Pauline Catholic Order. Its early history is marked by the dissolution of this order in 1786 under King Joseph II of the Habsburg monarchy. Following this event, ownership transferred in the 19th century to the prominent Zichy family, who maintained extensive estates in the neighboring Prekmurje region of Slovenia. Before Croatia's national independence, the property was managed by a local agricultural cooperative until 1990, after which it underwent privatization.

The architectural design features a distinctive long porch with arcades along the southeastern side, reflecting its classical heritage. Inside, the manor houses a large cellar containing a massive wooden wine press dating back to 1858. This equipment highlights the building's historical function as a center for wine production, utilizing grapes from the widespread vineyards on the surrounding hills. The proximity to the Mađerkin breg viewpoint further emphasizes its connection to the region's viticultural landscape. Today, the manor stands as a significant cultural landmark within Međimurje County, representing centuries of religious, aristocratic, and agricultural history in northern Croatia.
