Sturefors Castle

Sturefors Castle is a historic Swedish estate located just outside the city of Linköping in the province of Östergötland. Situated on the scenic shores of Lake Ärlången, the property has served as a prominent landmark in the region for centuries. While the original structure was erected in the 16th century by the nobleman Ture Bielke, only the north wing of that initial building survives today. The current main castle, which defines the site's architectural character, was constructed in 1704. It was commissioned by Carl Piper as a dower house for his wife, Christina Piper, and was designed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, one of Sweden's most celebrated architects known for introducing Baroque style to the country.

The castle holds significant historical value due to its long association with two of Sweden's influential families, the Pipers and the Bielkes. Following Christina Piper's death in 1752, the estate passed to her grandson, Nils Adam Bielke, and has remained in continuous ownership of the Bielke family ever since. This unbroken lineage highlights the property's role as a private ancestral home rather than a public institution. Today, Sturefors Castle remains privately owned by Count Bielke and is not open to the general public. Despite its exclusivity, it stands as a well-preserved example of early 18th-century aristocratic architecture, maintaining its original grandeur amidst the natural landscape of eastern Sweden.
