Strambinello Castle

Strambinello Castle, known locally as Castello di Strambinello, is a historic fortress situated in the town of Strambinello within the Piedmont region of Italy. First documented in the 12th century, the structure was originally constructed as a strategic military outpost to complement other defenses in the Pedanea area. Its initial design featured a quadrangular medieval layout complete with corner towers, reflecting the defensive architectural styles common to that era. The castle holds significant historical value due to its involvement in regional conflicts, most notably during the Tuchini revolt of 1387, when it was besieged and largely destroyed alongside neighboring fortifications before being rebuilt in subsequent centuries.

Throughout its long existence, the castle has witnessed numerous transformations and changes in ownership. It passed from the Counts of San Martino to the Counts of Castellamonte in 1310, and later to the Counts of Bersano and Barone through marriage and acquisition. During the 17th century, the interior underwent extensive renovations to match contemporary tastes, including the installation of grand fireplaces adorned with noble coats of arms and the dedication of a specific room to Charles Emmanuel II, Duke of Savoy. However, the 19th century marked a period of decline when the property was divided among various bourgeois families who utilized parts of the structure for agricultural purposes, leading to gradual deterioration.

In recent decades, the fate of Strambinello Castle has taken a positive turn. After falling into ruins by the mid-20th century, a comprehensive restoration project was undertaken starting in the 1980s. This effort successfully preserved the visible traces of its original medieval structure while adapting the building for modern use. Today, the castle no longer serves as a private residence or farm but operates as a hotel, allowing visitors to experience its rich history and restored grandeur firsthand. This conversion ensures the preservation of an important landmark in the Metropolitan City of Turin.
