Södertuna

Södertuna is a historic medieval castle situated on a small island within Lake Frösjön in Gnesta Municipality, Södermanland County, Sweden. Originally constructed during the 14th century, the structure showcases a blend of architectural influences resulting from significant updates made during the 17th and late 18th centuries. The estate underwent its last major renovation in 1892, preserving its historical character while adapting the facilities for modern requirements. Throughout its long existence, the property has served as the ancestral home to several prominent Swedish families, including the Sparre, Lovisin, Palmenfelt, Ehrensvard, Wachtmeister, Adelborg, and von Eckermann lineages, reflecting its enduring status among the nobility.

In 1985, the von Eckermann family separated the castle and its surrounding park from the rest of their holdings, selling the property to new owners alongside Norwegian investors. This partnership transformed the ancient fortress into a luxury hotel and conference center, which was officially inaugurated in 1986 by Princess Christina. This conversion marked a pivotal shift in the building's function, transitioning it from a private aristocratic residence to a public hospitality venue. In 2007, ownership transferred to the Åström family, who also manage other notable Swedish estates such as Dufweholms Manor Inn and Gripsholm, ensuring continued professional stewardship of the site.

Today, Södertuna operates as a premier destination for guests seeking a combination of historical ambiance and modern comfort. The main building retains its medieval origins despite centuries of modifications, offering visitors a tangible connection to Sweden's past.
