Rudkhan Castle, also known as Roodkhan Castle, is a historic brick and stone fortress located in Gilan province, Iran, approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Fuman city. Originally constructed during the Sasanian era between 224 and 651 CE, the structure was initially designed as a defensive stronghold against Arab invaders following the Muslim conquest of Persia and the fall of the Sasanian Empire. The site later gained renewed strategic importance when it was extensively rebuilt in 1096 by the Nizari Isma'ilis, serving as a key military complex for the Order of Assassins. Its placement atop two mountain peaks at elevations of 670 and 715 meters provided a natural advantage for surveillance and defense within the region of Tabarestan.

The architectural layout of the castle spans 1,550 meters in length across an area of 2.6 hectares, featuring robust fortifications and battlements adapted to the rugged terrain. The complex is divided into two primary sections: the Arg, situated on the western side with two-story brick structures, and the Qorkhaneh on the eastern side, which includes multiple skylights and openings. The facility was self-sufficient, containing twelve entrances on each side, prisons, baths, water reservoirs, cold storage units, and residential quarters surrounded by protective towers. A natural spring located within the grounds ensured a steady water supply for occupants during sieges.

Today, Rudkhan Castle stands as a significant medieval monument reflecting the military engineering prowess of ancient Iran.
