# Kodachadri

Kodachadri is a mountain peak located in the Western Ghats of South India, specifically in the Shivamogga District of Karnataka, approximately 78 kilometers from Shimoga. Situated on the border of Sagara taluk, Hosanagara Taluk, and Byndoor Taluk in Udupi District, the peak rises to an elevation of 1,343 meters above sea level, making it the highest peak in Shivamogga District and the thirteenth highest in Karnataka. The mountain is characterized by dense forests and has been designated as a natural heritage site by the Karnataka Government, recognizing its environmental and ecological significance.

The name Kodachadri derives from the Sanskrit words "Kodacha" or "Kodashi," referring to Kutaja flowers, and "Adri," meaning mountain. The Kutaja plant, scientifically known as Wrightia antidysenterica, is called the "Jasmine of the hills," reflecting the region's abundant flora. The peak forms a striking natural backdrop to the Mookambika temple in Kollur and is a prominent geographical feature of the region. Kodachadri has been populated since historic times, with the easiest trekking route accessed via Nagodi. The mountain is a popular destination for trekkers and visitors seeking to experience the Western Ghats' natural beauty and biodiversity, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape including the Western Ghats and the backwaters of Sharavati.
