Moj Garh Fort

Moj Garh Fort is a historic structure situated in the Cholistan Desert of Punjab, Pakistan, approximately 70 kilometers from Bahawalnagar city along the Yazman to Fort Abbas road. Located near the border with India in the area known as Thandi Khoi, this fortification was constructed in 1743 AD under the direction of Emperor Maroof Khan Kehrani. The architectural design utilized solid bricks and mud as primary building materials, originally enhanced with decorative glazed tiles that signified its importance. A distinctive dome was also erected roughly 400 yards south of the main fort complex, contributing to the site's historical layout and visual prominence within the arid landscape.

Over the centuries, the fort has suffered significant deterioration, with reports indicating that much of the structure had collapsed by the turn of the century. Today, it exists primarily as a crumbled ruin where missing exterior and interior facing bricks have exposed the underlying mud-brick core. Despite this extensive damage, approximately half of the original relics have survived, leaving the exterior walls and parts of the interior structure still prominently visible to visitors. The site currently stands as a testament to the region's past, though it remains in a derelict condition requiring urgent attention to prevent further loss of heritage.

In recent years, preservation efforts have been initiated to protect what remains of Moj Garh Fort. The Desert Rangers have taken over responsibility for the site, launching rehabilitation projects aimed at stabilizing the crumbling walls and preserving the surviving architectural elements. These efforts highlight the historical significance of the fort within the broader context of Rajput architecture in Pakistan. While the structure no longer serves its original defensive or residential purpose, it remains a notable landmark in the Bahawalnagar District, drawing attention from historians and conservationists dedicated to restoring the cultural legacy of the Cholistan Desert forts.
