Mesola

Mesola is a municipality located in the Province of Ferrara within the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Situated approximately 80 kilometers northeast of Bologna and 50 kilometers east of Ferrara, the town lies at a low elevation of just one meter above sea level. As of the early 2000s, the commune supported a population of over 7,300 residents across an area of roughly 84 square kilometers. It shares borders with several neighboring municipalities, including Ariano nel Polesine, Berra, Codigoro, and Goro, placing it in a strategic position within the fertile Po Delta landscape.

The most prominent historical landmark in Mesola is the Castle of Mesola, constructed between 1578 and 1583. Built in the late Renaissance style, this architectural gem was originally commissioned by the powerful Este dynasty to serve primarily as a luxurious hunting lodge rather than a defensive fortress.
