Korzkiew Castle

Korzkiew Castle is a historic fortress situated in the village of Korzkiew within the Lesser Poland Voivodeship of Poland. Originally constructed in the fourteenth century, specifically beginning in 1352 when Jan z Syrokomli acquired the local hill, the structure was initially built as a rectangular stone tower serving both defensive and residential purposes. Although primarily categorized under Romanesque architecture, the castle underwent significant rebuilding efforts by the end of the fifteenth century and again in 1720 under the ownership of the Jordanowie family. Throughout its long history, the property changed hands among various noble families, including the Wesslowie and Wodziccy, before eventually falling into a state of ruin towards the end of the nineteenth century.

In modern times, the castle has experienced a remarkable revival. Since 1997, the property has been owned by architect Jerzy Donimirski, who undertook extensive renovation and reconstruction projects to restore the site to its former glory. Today, the castle operates as a hotel, offering guests a stay within a piece of living history. The complex is part of the famous Trail of the Eagles' Nests tourist route and includes not only the restored castle but also a housing residence, a grange, and a park. These elements are collectively enlisted on the register of objects of cultural heritage for the region, ensuring their preservation for future generations.

Looking toward the future, the current ownership has outlined ambitious plans to further enhance the site's cultural value. In addition to maintaining the hotel operations, there are intentions to renovate the nearby manor house and ponds. Furthermore, plans are in place to establish a small museum and an open-air museum on the grounds, which will likely provide visitors with deeper insights into the architectural and historical significance of the estate. This ongoing development ensures that Korzkiew Castle remains not just a static monument, but an active center for tourism and education in Lesser Poland.
