Karsholm Castle

Karsholm Castle is an estate located in Kristianstad Municipality in Scania, Sweden. The site was first documented in the 14th century, with a four-part facility completed around 1620. The estate changed hands multiple times throughout the centuries before Swedish Count Fredrik Ulrik von Rosen purchased it in 1781. The property is not open to the public.

The castle's most significant transformation occurred in the mid-19th century. In 1854, Rudolf Hodder Stjernswärd acquired Karsholm and initiated extensive renovations to the main house. The structure was substantially rebuilt in 1862 under the direction of Danish architect Johan Christian Ferdinand Zwingmann, who redesigned it as a Dutch New Renaissance manor house, giving it the architectural style it maintains today. This Romantic-era renovation fundamentally altered the estate's appearance and established its current character.

Since 1869, Karsholm has been owned and operated by members of the Treschow family, a Danish-Norwegian noble family. The estate continues to function as a private property under family management, preserving its 19th-century architectural heritage while maintaining its historical significance as an important example of Scanian manor house design and renovation practices.
