Ina Castle

Ina Castle is located in the Kozakai area of Toyokawa city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The castle was built around 1440 by Honda Sadatada, the lord of Ina village. Its strategic location was particularly advantageous, as it was surrounded by rice paddies and rivers on three sides and bordered by an inlet from Mikawa Bay on the fourth side. This unique geography allowed supplies to be transported directly into the castle by water, providing significant logistical benefits to its inhabitants.

The castle served as the headquarters for Sadatada's descendants, who controlled the surrounding area for approximately 150 years. The Honda family's rule of the castle ended when Honda Yasutoshi was transferred to Shimōsa Province in the early 17th century. Today, Ina Castle no longer stands as an active fortification. Instead, its former site has been converted into a public park featuring a small reconstructed tower and explanatory signboards in Japanese. These displays help visitors understand the castle's historical significance and provide information about its role in regional governance during the medieval period.
