Fort Saint Anthony, located near the town of Axim in western Ghana, stands as a significant material cultural heritage site and the westernmost fort of the former Dutch Gold Coast. Originally constructed by the Portuguese in 1515 to control the local gold trade, the structure replaced an earlier trading post known as the House of Axem. The fort features a strategic coastal design that was considerably expanded by the Dutch after they captured the installation in 1642.
