Castello di Brolio

Castello di Brolio is a historic rural castle, palace, and garden complex situated in San Regolo, within the municipality of Gaiole in Chianti, approximately twenty kilometers northeast of Siena in the Tuscany region of Italy. The site has remained in the possession of the prestigious Ricasoli family for nearly eight centuries, serving as a enduring symbol of their lineage. Throughout its long history, the fortress suffered destruction multiple times during the fierce medieval wars between the rival city-states of Siena and Florence. Following significant damage inflicted by the Sienese army, the structure was rebuilt around the year 1500, laying the foundation for the current estate that stands today on a distinctive pentagonal plinth.

The architectural character of the castle is defined by a blend of ancient stone fortifications and a larger brick palace constructed in the Gothic Revival style.
